President Traoré Appoints Deputy Commanders for Burkina Faso’s Rapid Intervention Battalions


Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – In a significant move to bolster the command structure of Burkina Faso’s military, President Ibrahim Traoré announced the appointment of deputy commanders for six Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR) on Friday. This step is seen as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s defense capabilities.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the appointments include Lieutenant Abel Haro for the first BIR, Lieutenant Ibrahim Ky for the second BIR, and Lieutenant Wendpagnandé Aristide Lofo for the 3rd BIR. Additionally, the deputy commanders for the 4th, 5th, and 6th BIRs are Captain Fatao Yamba, Lieutenant Wempoéré Ignace Pima, and Captain Hamidou Traoré, respectively.



In a related move, President Traoré also appointed Lieutenant Médard Kaboré as the deputy commander of the Training and Development Center for Special and Rapid Intervention Units. These appointments are indicative of the government’s commitment to ensuring the effectiveness and readiness of its military forces, particularly the Rapid Intervention Battalions, which play a crucial role in the country’s defense strategy.
