Youth and Women Spearhead Cleanup at Houndé Town Hall in Burkina Faso

Houndé – In a display of civic pride, young residents and women in Houndé rallied to clean the town hall on Thursday, October 26, 2023, as part of the National Citizenship Week festivities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Bassidiki Ouattara, who participated in the cleanup on behalf of the High Commissioner Issiaka Segda, the event saw a significant turnout from local youth and women. They arrived equipped with shovels, rakes, machetes, wheelbarrows, and other tools to remove tall grass and bulky trash from the town hall premises.

Amadou Waigalo, representing the youth, explained that their involvement in the cleanup was an integral aspect of the 20th National Citizenship Week (SENAC) in Houndé. Waigalo underscored the initiative as an opportunity to reinforce the values of patriotism and non-violence among the youth, as well as to foster unity among the citizens of Burkina Faso.

Ouattara commended the young people’s commitment to the civic initiative. He encouraged the maintenance of such community-minded efforts to ensure a healthy living environment, which is particularly crucial in the context of a dengue fever outbreak in the region. Additionally, Ouattara emphasized the importance of respecting public property and embracing the Burkinabè identity.

The cleanup at the town hall is one of many activities scheduled during National Citizenship Week, a campaign designed to enhance community engagement and promote national values among the citizens of Burkina Faso.
