Military Veterans hosts 60th Anniversary of uMkhonto we Sizwe, 16 Dec

The Department of Military Veterans in conjunction with the Freedom Park and the former uMkhonto we Sizwe Preparatory Task Team will host the 60th Anniversary of uMkhonto we Sizwe, on the 16th December 2021, at Freedom Park under the theme “celebrating the liberation struggle, and armed pillars that became the vehicles to achieve democracy.

The year 2021 marks sixty years since the formation of uMkhonto we Sizwe, a milestone in the formation of this armed wing. It is going to be a celebration of the historical interventions made by the armed liberation forces and support thereof.

uMkhonto we Sizwe was born out of a sense of the heavy responsibility that our history had thrust upon our people, and it was the people’s answer to the historical challenges from the racists rulers of South Africa.

Acting President, Mr David Mabuza will deliver the keynote address.

The Department’s will continue to recognise and honour military veterans in life and remembering them in death.

The event will take place as follows:
