Cascades: Screening of the theatrical play “The King’s Elephant or Massa Sama”

The Culture Group Association and Munyu organized in Banfora on Friday September 8, 2023, the closing ceremony of the activities of the adaptation, translation and production project of the theatrical play The King’s Elephant or Massa Sama in Dioula, followed by its projection. This ceremony was chaired by the Governor of the Cascades region, Jean Charles Yenapono Somé.

The new village hall of Banfora town hall served as the setting for the official screening of the theatrical play entitled: “The King’s Elephant”. This closure comes after 7 months of project implementation.

Practically, it consisted of adapting and translating the theatrical play “The King’s Elephant or Massa Sama into the national Dioula language, staging the said play through a month of rehearsal, designing materials decor and stage props, to record/film the play in a room in Banfora then to edit and subtitle the work in French in Ouagadougou.

The theatrical play “King’s Elephant” is a work by Ildevert Meda, a famous Burkinabe theater man, playwright, actor, filmmaker, director, committed trainer.

As a reminder, this play denounces the evils which undermine development and summarizes dictatorship, the monarchy, abuse of authority, human torture, murders and assassinations of opponents, the restriction of freedoms of expression and opinion. “For a month, Ildevert Meda put into motion his immense talent, his ingenuity, his methodology and above all his pedagogy which allowed around thirty actors to work without respite and in a fraternal atmosphere,” indicated the President of the Culture Group. , Bamadou Sanogo.

According to Mr. Sanogo, the two beneficiary structures of this project are the Culture Group and the Munyu Association. According to him, they will work together for the post-project, which will make it possible to establish partnerships with television channels nationally and internationally with a view to ensuring the broadcast of the work. He specified that this broadcast will begin with Munyu TV.
