Young Golfers Battle in Playoffs at Sigona US Kids Local Tour Tournament

Sigona—The Sigona Golf Club course set the stage for intense competition among young golfers, with playoffs required in six separate categories. In the boys’ 12-year category, a fierce rivalry between Amar Shah and Aidan Gachora culminated in a playoff after each scored 78 points in regular play.

According to a new release by Kenya News Agency, the first playoff hole left the two competitors level, leading to a second playoff hole where Aidan Gachora emerged victorious. This marked his second consecutive win in the US Kids Local Tour, following his win at Vetlab a week earlier where Amar Shah placed second. Both players acknowledged the pressure of the playoffs. Gachora said he missed a four-foot putt for par in the first playoff hole due to pressure, while Shah commented on the day’s challenges with his short game, stating he “couldn’t putt today.”

In the boys’ 11-year category, Jeff Kivi won against Shuhan Peng in the first hole of the playoffs, with both initially scoring 79 points. Both players were visibly pressured by the situation, especially since they consider each other close friends. Kivi admitted his heart was pounding at the thought of the playoff while Peng, despite strong performance in his short game, faced difficulty in the playoff, ending up in the bushes on his drive.

Additional playoffs were necessary in other age categories as well. In the boys’ nine-year group, Ishaan Patel won against Jerome Njuguna after both tied with 38 points. In the girls’ divisions, playoffs determined the winners in the 8 and under category, the 9-10 years category, and the 15-18 years category. Irene Asiyo, Ashley Gachora, and Hazel Kuria emerged as the winners in their respective categories after beating Lynette Zawadi, Aarna Mengi, and Cherise Wachira in their playoffs.
