Windhoek City Police Launch Road Safety Campaign Ahead of Festive Season

Windhoek – In preparation for the upcoming festive season, the Windhoek City Police, led by Deputy Chief Eliaser Iyambo, has initiated a road safety campaign urging motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy. The campaign, launched on Tuesday, is part of the broader National Festive Season Road Safety Campaign aimed at reducing road accidents.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), speaking during the campaign launch, the primary objective is to save lives by encouraging drivers to check and rectify any defects in their vehicles before embarking on journeys. As part of this initiative, several car owners took advantage of the free testing offered at the City Police headquarters, where a mobile vehicle testing station provided by the Roads Authority was set up.

Iyambo emphasized the importance of maintaining vehicles in good condition, especially for long trips, as part of the national effort to promote safe driving practices during the holiday season. The campaign’s message is clear: doing the right thing can save lives.

The deputy chief also addressed crime prevention measures in Windhoek during the festive season. An ongoing operation, jointly conducted by the City Police and the Namibian Police Force in the Khomas Region, focuses on tackling housebreakings and armed robberies. Police officers are actively patrolling all 22 zones within the Windhoek municipality, and the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities.

Iyambo lauded the strong collaboration between law enforcement and the community in combating crime in Windhoek. He noted that incidents of housebreaks, robberies, and thefts from vehicles have significantly decreased due to the combined efforts of law enforcement and community members. Iyambo extended his gratitude to the public for their crucial role in providing information that has led to the arrest of numerous criminals, thereby enhancing the safety and security of the city.
