Burkina Faso University Lab Focuses on Training in Energy and Nuclear Fields

Ouagadougou—Professor Sié Kam, head of the Renewable Thermal Energy Laboratory (LETRE) at Joseph KI-Zerbo University, discussed the lab’s focus on energy and ongoing training efforts in Ouagadougou on Saturday. The remarks were made during the lab’s very first assembly, where regulatory texts and management documents were expected to be validated and adopted.

According to a new release by Burkina Information Agency, the laboratory aims to fill a gap in energy research and training, particularly in nuclear energy. “The authorities of our country have made a strong decision in our opinion. The technical structures of the laboratories still need to train many people in this field,” he said. Despite having existing resources, more are needed to meet the nation’s energy needs adequately.

The assembly served as an opportunity to align the laboratory’s operations with university regulations. Professor Kam indicated that adhering to these regulations is essential for the lab to operate effectively.

The Renewable Thermal Energy Laboratory, founded in 2009 by the now-retired Professor Joseph Dieudonné Bathiébo, comprises five teams: Thermal Transfers in Energy Systems, led by Professor Sié Kam; Engineering of Complex Energy Conversion and Energy Efficiency Systems, led by Professor Bernard Zouma; Physics of Semiconductors and Photovoltaic Energy, directed by Professor Issa Zerbo; Applied Nuclear Sciences, directed by Professor Martial Zoungrana; and Physics of the Atmosphere-Radiation-Climate, under the direction of Professor Bruno Korgo.
