Deputy Minister Reginah Mhaule launches Policy on the Prevention and Management of Learner Pregnancy in Schools (LPPM) in Rustenburg, 17 Feb

The Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr. Reginah Mhaule together with the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, will tomorrow launch the Policy on the Prevention and Management of

Learner Pregnancy in Schools. The MEC for Health in North West Dr. Madoda Sambatha, will be part of the launch on Thursday, 17 February 2022 in Rustenburg, North West.

The launch will be hybrid and will be co-hosted with the North West Department of Education and will be held at Platinum Village Secondary School in Rustenburg, North West.

The launch will be preceded by a March on “Anti-Unsafe Termination of Pregnancy” led by the Department of Health in support of the Department of Basic Education. During the march, the Deputy

Ministers of Basic Education and Health supported by the North West MEC for Health will be conducting and leading the march on illegal abortions in Bojanala District, Rustenburg.

Also in attendance will be the Premier of North West Mr. Bushy Maape, North West MEC for Education Ms. Wendy Matsemela and the Deputy Minister of the Department of Social Development Ms Henrietta

Bogopane-Zulu.

The DBE continues to strengthen its Policy Framework environment to promote health and wellbeing of learners in schools in order to enhance prevention of HIV, STIs and EUP and the launch is taking place

during the Pregnancy/Condom Week, which aims to encourage people to use condoms to prevent STIs and pregnancy.
