Yacouba Ouattara Assumes Role as Eastern Regional Director of National Police

GOURMA – Divisional Police Commissioner Yacouba Ouattara took over as the new Eastern Regional Director of the National Police on May 13, 2024, succeeding Barthélémy Yanogo who led the directorate for two years. The change in leadership was marked by a formal handover ceremony, recognizing the contributions of the outgoing commissioner.

According to Burkina Information Agency, who spoke on behalf of the police personnel, the tenure of Yanogo saw the creation of several units including the Mobile Intervention Unit Groups (GUMI), which significantly contributed to counter-terrorism efforts and combating major criminal activities in the region. Kamboulé also highlighted the sacrifices made by colleagues and security auxiliaries (VDP) in their efforts to reclaim areas from terrorist control.

Yanogo, moving to a new role, thanked the national police and government authorities for their trust and commended his team for their perseverance through challenging times. He also praised the regional communities for their unwavering support. Upon assuming his new responsibilities, Ouattara acknowledged the magnitude of the challenges ahead, particularly those posed by terrorism and organized crime, but expressed confidence in achieving positive outcomes with collective dedication.

The ceremony was presided over by Siaka Ouattara, the Secretary-General of Gourma province, who expressed hope that the new director would manage his duties effectively, considering the youthful composition of his team, and collaborate closely with all security forces to deliver substantial results.
