Getting the youth amplified with the culture of reading this Youth Month

As we reach the 7th session of the Virtual Reading Clubs (VRC) which are steered by The National Reading Coalition (NRC) as part of the President’s initiative to get South Africans in the spirit of reading, the sessions have grown immensely over the months. Several books have been reviewed through the six sessions of the VRC, with some books sparking personal and relatable experiences in reviewers.

The NRC will be hosting its 7th session of the VRC on the 24th of June 2021, where a discussion of Malose Langa’s “Becoming Men: Black masculinity in South African Townships” will take place.

The discussion of the book will be steered by the author of the book Malose Langa who is also a psychology lecturer in the School of Community and Human Development at The University of Witwatersrand. Malose will also be joined by Seth Mazibuko who is the member of the South African Students’ Organisation and was one of the youngest members of the organization which planned and led the 1976 Soweto students uprising. This Youth month, the discussion will also be joined by three brilliant learners from three different schools, two in Gauteng and one in the Eastern Cape.
