Zoundw©ogo: The Zoundw©ogo Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests hosted the traditional monthly flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday, presided over by High Commissioner Julien Ou©draogo. The ceremony, which brought together representatives of the province’s various bodies, featured speeches focusing on patriotism, public health, and civic engagement.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Provincial Director of Water and Forests, Adama Kalmogo, opened the series of speeches by emphasizing the symbolic significance of the event. “The raising of the national flag is a powerful moment of unity, commitment, and patriotism,” he declared, urging participants to strengthen solidarity and social cohesion. He expressed his hope that this rotating initiative in the province would further engage stakeholders in working for peace, security, and development in Burkina Faso.
The Chief Medical Officer of the Manga health district, Dr. Inoussa Sawadogo, then relayed a message from his superiors on the fight against malaria, the leading cause of consultations, hospitalizations, and deaths in the country. He reiterated that the National Malaria Control Program has now been established as a Permanent Secretariat for Malaria Elimination, with the goal of “zero malaria by 2030.”
Dr. Sawadogo particularly emphasized the destruction of mosquito breeding sites, which consist primarily of stagnant water that provides ideal conditions for mosquito proliferation. He commended the efforts already made, which have led to a reduction of approximately 30% in cases in the region, while urging the population to maintain this momentum. “A healthy population is a productive population,” he reminded them, citing the conclusions of the recent national forum on health financing.
The High Commissioner of Zoundw©ogo Province, Julien Ou©draogo, presented a summary of the “D¨m¨ Sira” campaign, which concluded in January. Zoundw©ogo Province contributed nearly 9 million CFA francs, in cash and in kind, to the regional effort estimated at over 30 million. He expressed his gratitude to the various institutions for their involvement and encouraged the continuation of this spirit of solidarity. Referring to the tax compliance day held in February, he commended the exceptional mobilization of citizens in paying local taxes.
In line with the Patriotic Engagement and Citizen Participation Days launched on March 26, the provincial authorities announced several activities planned until April 9: blood drives, community clean-up days, and the promotion of local consumption. A cleanup operation is scheduled for April 4th at the Manga police station, while a day dedicated to local products will be organized before the end of the two-week event. “Let’s consume what we produce,” he urged, calling for the promotion of national creations such as Faso Dan Fani fabric.
