Manga: Actors involved in the prevention and management of community conflicts in the province of Zoundwéogo (Centre-Sud) began, on Monday, a capacity-building session in techniques for the prevention, resolution and transformation of community conflicts. This initiative is supported by the NGO ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the two-day workshop brought together around sixty participants, including members of the Zoundwéogo provincial, communal and village conflict prevention and management observatories, representatives of provincial women’s and youth coordination groups, as well as officials and agents of provincial technical services in charge of human rights and humanitarian action.

Edmond Gue, national director of the NGO ADRA Burkina Faso, stated that this training was organized in collaboration with the regional directorate of Human Rights, Promotion of Citizenship and Peace of the Center-South. It aims to “strengthen the capaciti
es of key actors to enable them to effectively prevent and resolve community conflicts in their respective localities.”

The activity is part of the project ‘Peaceful coexistence between host communities and internally displaced persons’, deployed in the provinces of Bazèga, Nahouri and Zoundwéogo thanks to the financial support of ADRA Czech Republic.

During this session, participants will work on tools and techniques for preventing, resolving and transforming community conflicts, through communications and exchanges.

Souleymane Sawadogo, Regional Director of Human Rights, Promotion of Citizenship and Peace for the Centre-South, emphasized the workshop as a valuable opportunity to equip members of the various Zoundwéogo observatories with the necessary skills to act effectively on the ground.

He also acknowledged the support of the NGO ADRA Burkina, which contributes to strengthening the capacities of the actors of the local cells of the Permanent Secretariat of the National Observatory for the Prevention
and Management of Community Conflicts (SP-ONAPREGECC). In a region like the Centre-South, which hosts many internally displaced persons and faces recurring conflicts, particularly over land, this capacity building is essential to ensure lasting social cohesion and peace, Mr. Sawadogo stressed.

Edmond Gue specified that, in the coming days, a similar session will be organized for the actors of the province of Bazèga.
