Zorgho Hosts Advocacy Event to Promote Polio and Schistosomiasis Vaccination Campaigns


Zorgho – Dr. Delphin KaborĂ©, Chief Medical Officer of the Zorgho health district, led a significant advocacy meeting on May 8, 2024, aimed at bolstering health initiatives in Ganzourgou province. The event, which took place in Zorgho, convened administrative authorities, opinion leaders, and regional stakeholders to discuss upcoming health campaigns.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the primary goal of the meeting was to educate and engage attendees about two key health campaigns scheduled for the area. The first campaign, focusing on poliomyelitis eradication and malnutrition screening, is set for May 10-13, with a follow-up from June 7-10. The second campaign, targeting schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, will run from May 14-19, 2024.



Chaired by Ms. Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, High Commissioner of the Ganzourgou province, the workshop facilitated detailed discussions on the diseases targeted by these campaigns, their objectives, and the populations at risk. Dr. KaborĂ© emphasized the campaigns’ critical importance and the need for widespread community involvement.



Participants at the meeting pledged unanimous support, committing to assist the health district in its awareness-raising efforts. They resolved to disseminate information broadly and encourage community participation in the vaccination and screening initiatives.



In her concluding remarks, Ms. Sorgho/Gouba expressed gratitude to all participants for their commitment and underscored the collective effort required to ensure the success of these health campaigns and to enhance the well-being of the province’s residents.
