Zorgho Celebrates Closing of 2024 Primary School Sports and Cultural Season

Zorgho – The sports and cultural season of the Basic Education District (CEB) of Zorgho for the year 2024 concluded on May 11 with a ceremony presided over by the president of the special delegation of the municipality, Valentin Badolo. The event, which began on January 31, was officially closed at the Zorgho sports stadium, highlighted by a football match between the Loundogo ‘A’ school team and the Sapaga ‘B’ school team.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the secretary general of the Organization of Sport, Culture, and Leisure in Primary Schools (OSCLEP) of the CEB of Zorgho, the football season featured over 70 matches. However, cultural participation was low, with only four out of more than 70 schools registered for cultural events.

The closing activities started on May 10 at Kambambori ‘A’ school with athletic competitions and cultural presentations, including modern ballet and a local food and products fair. Kambambori ‘A’ school won the cultural competition, followed by Bouglem, Amitié ‘A’, and Sapaga ‘B’ schools.

The ceremony on May 11 was attended by significant figures, including the High Commissioner of Ganzourgou, Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, and the Provincial Director of Preschool, Primary, and Non-Formal Education of Ganzourgou, Nobila Célestine Zagré/Zoungrana. Their presence underscored the event’s significance to the community.

The day featured a parade of students from different management areas of the CEB, emotional speeches, and a concluding football match. The Loundogo ‘A’ team triumphed over the Sapaga ‘B’ team with a score of 2-0, securing the championship along with a trophy, a set of jerseys, a ball, and 35 thousand FCFA. The runners-up received jerseys, a ball, and 25 thousand FCFA, with third and fourth places going to teams from Digré and Zinado schools, respectively.

The community looks forward to the 2025 season, hoping for greater participation and enjoyment for the children.
