Zorgho: The monitoring and follow-up committee for the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in the Oubri region submitted an advocacy note to the Zorgho municipal special delegation on Friday, November 14, 2025. The initiative aims to promote the integration of climate concerns into the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and the Annual Investment Plan (AIP).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting, held in the town hall meeting room, allowed the committee to present the conclusions of a participatory assessment conducted in the municipality. The document submitted to the municipal authorities recommends, in particular, the adoption of a resolution on waste management, the establishment of a controlled landfill, and the expansion and strengthening of management contracts concluded with local associations.
It was the first vice-president of the special delegation, Naaba Yemde, also the customary chief of Bougre, who received the advocacy document on behalf of the President of the institution.
According to the committee's communications officer, Sidonie Kiedrebeogo, these proposals stem from a previous meeting on the municipality's environmental concerns. Discussions among the participants led to several areas of consensus and commitments. These include the "One Home, One Tree" initiative and the organization of training sessions on seedling production.
Following the discussions, a schedule for monitoring the commitments was established to ensure the gradual implementation of advocacy activities. The president of the special delegation (PDS), Valentin Badolo, welcomed the initiative, highlighting its relevance to the municipal priorities in terms of sustainable development and climate resilience.
The activity is supported by the Permanent Secretariat of Non-Governmental Organizations (SPONG) through the FasoVeil project, funded by the European Union via Laboratoire Citoyennetes. According to the project manager, Amadou Zoungrana, the Oubri committee is among the most active in the country, which explains the technical and financial support provided. The committee is working on the NDC, the national framework that sets out the efforts to be made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
