Zondoma: As part of the initiative to establish Young Leaders Clubs (CJeL) in secondary schools, the Association Monde Rural (AMR) organized an exchange meeting in Gourcy. The meeting, held on October 30, 2024, brought together club supervisors and heads of establishments from the provinces of Yatenga, Zondoma, Passoré, and Boulkiemdé, focusing on fostering youth leadership within educational environments.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Young Leaders Clubs aim to empower young people to make positive contributions to their communities by instilling values such as civic-mindedness, citizenship, and civic participation. The meeting was convened to revitalize existing clubs and establish new ones, with an emphasis on equipping students with the skills necessary for future leadership roles.

The day-long session included discussions on the clubs’ philosophy, operational strategies, and support and monitoring systems. Karim Souma, headmaster of the Oumarou Clément Ouédraogo Departmental High School in Passoré, highlighted the significance of understanding the clubs’ objectives and principles to effectively fulfill their roles.

Minata Zorom/Gandema, an education advisor at Bassi Departmental High School in Zondoma, expressed readiness for her club’s activities, which include fifteen students, ten girls, and five boys, mirroring the structure of other clubs.

This effort is part of the Local Governance program, a collaborative project with NGOs Diakonia and Broederlijk Delen, aimed at promoting democracy, decentralization, and good
