Zondoma: The Regional Director of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education (DREPPNF) of the North, Pascal Waongo, officially launched the 2024-2025 literacy campaign on Monday, January 13, 2025, in Gourcy. More than 4,800 learners are registered in the North region for this campaign.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Bisnaba center in sector 3 of Gourcy was the site of the official launch of this year’s literacy campaign. The event was led by regional director Pascal Waongo and attended by provincial director Karim Sawadogo, along with other education officials and literacy operators from the province of Zondoma.
Pascal Waongo highlighted that the campaign aligns with the country’s vision to promote national languages. He took the opportunity to commend those involved in organizing the campaign, particularly the learners who are predominantly women. Waongo urged them to achieve commendable results by the end of the year and assured that technical support would be available to ensure the campaign’s success.
One of the learners, Balguissa Ou©draogo, shared her motivation for joining the campaign, stating her desire to read and write in her native language, Moor©, which she believes will be beneficial. She is one of over 4,800 learners in the Northern region who have enrolled in the 160 centers established this year, focusing primarily on the Moor© and Fulfuld© languages.
In the province of Zondoma, where the official launch took place, 26 centers are set to open. Out of these, 24 will receive funding from the National Fund for Literacy (FONAENF), while four will be privately financed. A final evaluation will occur in four months, culminating in certification for successful candidates.
