Zondoma Residents Rally to Repair Road for Maouloud Festival

Ouagadougou: Zondoma Under the aegis of the provincial coordination of the Zondoma citizen monitoring associations, young people from the communes of Bassi and Gourcy mobilized on Thursday, August 28, 2025, to repair the road leading to Taslima, which was badly damaged near the village of Songdin.

According to Burkina Information Agency, thousands of people will travel to Taslima, a village in the commune of Bassi located about 18 kilometers from Gourcy, in the coming days for the Maouloud festival, celebrated with great pomp every year in this locality. To facilitate access, the provincial coordination of citizen monitoring associations of Zondoma called for a rally to fill the potholes on the particularly degraded section near Songdin.

Oumarou Ouedraogo, the provincial coordinator of citizen monitoring associations of Zondoma, stated, "We went out to repair this road, which is very busy during each Maouloud period but is currently in very poor condition." Armed with shovels, picks, and crowbars, young people from Gourcy and the surrounding villages of Songdin worked to make the road more passable.

The effort received support from local spiritual leaders. Sheikh Issa Ouedraogo of Songdin visited the site to encourage the initiative, followed by Sheikh Abdoul Wahab of Taslima, who expressed gratitude for the civic action. "Your action reflects the commitment of the President of Faso, who is fighting for the development of the country," said Sheikh Abdoul Wahab, while offering blessings for the youth and the country's authorities.

This initiative brought relief to road users who had faced difficulties using the route. Many stopped to join in the work or to congratulate those involved.

Oumarou Ouedraogo mentioned that the group plans to continue their efforts on other roads damaged by heavy rains in the locality.
