Ouagadougou: The Child Protection Network convened a meeting to tackle the issue of child begging, chaired by coordinator Adams Davou alongside Jean Séverin Bakala, the Provincial Director of Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity. The meeting gathered imams and teachers from Koranic homes to deliberate on the increasing visibility of child begging, notably during late hours.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Davou highlighted the vulnerability of numerous children seen late at night, stressing that not all children carrying boxes are beggars, thereby urging for a more nuanced understanding of the situation. The discussions provided a platform for participants to voice their concerns and suggest potential solutions, such as establishing specific times for children to return home and enhancing supervision in Koranic schools.

The Secretary General of Ziro province dismissed the idea of imposing sanctions for now and emphasized the responsibility of religious leaders to prevent any potential ex
cesses. He reiterated that the issue affects all children and is a matter for the entire community.

Participants concluded the meeting with a commitment to raise awareness and implement strategies to ensure greater protection for children engaged in Quranic education.
