Zero Voter Turnout at Nakabolelwa in Zambezi Region

Katima mulilo: Some polling stations in the Zambezi Region experienced a notably low voter turnout during the special voting segment of the 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections. At the Nakabolelwa Combined School polling station in the Kabbe South Constituency, there were no votes cast despite having 18 registered special voters.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Sanjo Senior Secondary School polling station in the Katima Rural Constituency recorded just two votes, while the Kabbe North Constituency saw only one voter participating. Barren Libebe, the presiding officer at the Dr Sam Nujoma Combined School polling station in Kabbe North, remarked on the unfortunate low turnout. He noted that the process was smooth and that all necessary ballot materials were securely transported to the Katima Mulilo police station in preparation for the upcoming mass voting exercise.

In contrast, the Ngweze Community Hall polling station in the Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency had approximately 200 residents casting their votes out of over 20,000 registered voters, according to Presiding Officer Lilian Kachana. Political party agents in Katima Mulilo Urban praised the smooth conduct of the special voting exercise, describing it as free and fair. Swapo agent Progress Mwinkanda confirmed the secure closure of ballot boxes in the presence of security agents, electoral staff, and party agents.

However, Independent Patriots for Change party agent Mukendwa Mukendwa reported a brief interruption due to a shortage of envelopes for ballot papers, which delayed the process by over 30 minutes. Despite this, the overall voting process was considered smooth.

The Katima Mulilo Urban voting team is under the supervision of Paddy Mwazi as the returning officer for the Regional Councils Election, with Kahimbi Masule overseeing the Katima Mulilo Local Authority Election. The mass voting exercise is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
