WINDHOEK – During a memorial service held for the late President Hage Geingob on Saturday, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema announced plans to rename two significant roads in Zambia in honor of Geingob and Namibia’s Founding President Sam Nujoma. This gesture aims to preserve the legacy of two figures recognized for their contributions to peace and stability in Africa. Hichilema’s announcement underscores the deep respect and admiration held for both leaders within the region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the decision to rename the roads reflects the impact that Geingob and Nujoma have had on Zambia and the broader African continent. Hichilema remarked on Geingob’s strong connections to Zambia, noting that he had spent approximately 17 years in the country, making him as much Zambian as Namibian in the eyes of the people. Furthermore, Hichilema, who was an undergraduate student at the University of Zambia while Geingob was a scholar there, highlighted Geingob’s significant academic contributions and described him as a statesman who was courageous and always ready to advocate for the interests of African nations.
