Luanda: The Zambian ambassador to Angola, Elias Munshya, expressed his country's interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Angola, particularly in the parliamentary, economic, and agricultural domains. The diplomat made the statement during an audience with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ado de Almeida, as part of his presentation as the new head of the Zambian diplomatic mission in the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the audience also aimed to congratulate the Angolan parliamentary leader on his election and to consolidate institutional ties between the parliaments of the two states. Elias Munshya noted that relations between the Angolan National Assembly and the Zambian parliament are positive, marked by regular exchanges of experiences and visits between deputies from both countries.
On a broader level, the ambassador highlighted the historical relations between the Angolan and Zambian peoples, which he viewed as fundamental to strengthening bilateral cooperation. In the economic field, he advocated for increased trade between the two countries to promote joint growth and leverage each market's potential.
He stressed the importance of prioritizing intra-African trade, especially within the Southern African Development Community region, focusing on the circulation of locally produced agricultural products. Elias Munshya considered that intensifying trade in the region could reduce dependence on markets outside the African continent, contributing to the sustainable development of member countries.
In the agricultural sector, he identified food production and marketing as a strategic area with the potential to boost the region's economies and strengthen food security. The ambassador also highlighted Angola's economic potential, particularly in the oil sector and logistics infrastructure, mentioning the Lobito Corridor as a point of great interest for deepening cooperation.
