ZAMBEZI: The special voting for the Presidential and National Assembly elections commenced as scheduled at 07h00 in the Zambezi Region, specifically for members of the Namibian Police Force, Namibian Defence Force, and Correctional Service officials. The voting was held at the Ngweze community hall, the designated venue for this special electoral exercise.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the voting process began with the notable participation of Joseph Nehemia, the police’s deputy commissioner for operations in the Zambezi Region, who was substituting for Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, engaged elsewhere on official duties. The presence of police and army vehicles was observed outside the voting venue, indicating a significant security presence.
Zambezi Regional Electoral Officer, Lesley Simwanza, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and smooth conduct of the voting process. He highlighted the effectiveness of voter education efforts in ensuring a good turnout among the security clusters. Simwanza repor
ted that by 13h00, over 300 uniformed personnel had cast their votes, reflecting active participation from the security forces.
Simwanza further affirmed the competence of the polling officials, attributing it to their extensive experience in handling elections. The special voting exercise was supervised by Kabende Kawana as the presiding officer and Clarina Dias as the returning officer for the electoral commission. Provisional results are anticipated to be announced after 21h00, marking the conclusion of the voting period.
