Zabre Authorities Set Deadline for Sanitation Compliance, Warn of Imminent Sanctions

Zabre: The Zabre town hall in conjunction with the Forces Vives launched a significant awareness campaign on Thursday to address the issue of unsanitary conditions in the city. Shopkeepers have been given a deadline of September 3, 2025, to ensure the placement of trash cans in front of their establishments, as part of efforts to improve sanitation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative follows a meeting held on August 20, chaired by prefect and president of the Zabre special delegation, Alain Boubie Bassono. During this meeting, a comprehensive roadmap was adopted to enhance solid waste management and mitigate health risks associated with poor sanitation. Prior to the operation, a local radio program had already disseminated information to the public regarding the importance of maintaining cleanliness.

The campaign saw members of the PDS and the Forces Vives donning orange and green vests as they traversed the city streets, stopping by shops, restaurants, and butcheries to emphasize the necessity of maintaining cleanliness. They particularly stressed the installation of trash receptacles to curb the practice of littering.

Municipal authorities indicated that voluntary associations have pledged to regularly collect waste, which will then be transported by the town hall to the central dump. Additionally, a plastic processing plant has shown interest in purchasing the collected plastic waste.

The PDS underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, "Today, we came out to raise awareness and explain. After September 3, it will be to impose sanctions. Zabre is already suffering from uncontrolled garbage dumping. If we don't react, the people themselves will pay the price." The PDS called for collective action, urging both the town hall and residents to collaborate and cease blaming each other.

During their city tour, the town hall officials also issued summonses to individuals who were constructing on or obstructing the gutters.

The initiative was generally well-received by the population, who expressed their support for the campaign.
