Youth Enterprise Fund Disburses Over Sh.8 Million to Beneficiaries in Vihiga County

Vihiga: The Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) in Vihiga County has disbursed Sh8,372,000 to 32 groups and 12 individuals in the current financial year. The funds are aimed at supporting various entrepreneurial activities among the youth in the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, Cleophas Odhiambo, the county YEDF Credit Officer, stated that beneficiaries are engaging in activities such as agribusiness, poultry, horticulture, apiculture, dairy value chains, and retail businesses. Odhiambo noted that follow-ups have shown positive outcomes, with the chosen enterprises performing well and enhancing livelihoods.

Odhiambo highlighted a group in Banja ward, Hamisi Sub-County, that is excelling in apiculture. The group has harvested a substantial quantity of honey, which has a ready market and fetches a good price. Additionally, an application of Sh4.1 million is currently being processed to support 425 youth entrepreneurs in various business activities.

The YEDF officer emphasized that some entrepreneurs have expanded their businesses, while others have successfully launched new ventures. He urged more young people to form and register groups to benefit from the affirmative action fund.
