Youth Engagement Highlighted in Agenda-Setting Consultations in Addis Ababa

ADDIS ABABA—Young people in Addis Ababa have been notably active in shaping the city-level agendas through a series of consultations, participants reported. These gatherings are part of a broader, participatory national effort to solicit community input on various societal issues.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, a representative from Yeka sub-city’s youth segment, the agenda-setting process has been inclusive and transparent, facilitated by the conducive environment provided by the National Dialogue Commission. Gelaw emphasized that the consultations allowed for open and unrestricted presentation of agenda items. He also encouraged youths across the nation to engage in these discussions responsibly to contribute to lasting peace.

Simegn Tibebu and Rahel Yinesu, other youth participants, echoed the sentiment of active involvement in these consultations. Tibebu noted the importance of dialogue and consultations in nation-building, urging young people to acknowledge these critical components. Yinesu, representing Arada Sub-city, highlighted the role of collective effort over individual interests in ensuring the country’s peace and building a solid foundation for national progress.
