Luanda: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MINJUD) considers the bronze medal won at the African Fencing Championship, which has been taking place since Saturday at the Cidadela pavilion in Luanda, a historic mark of Angolan sport. A ministerial note, signed by the titular minister, Rui Falco, to which ANGOP had access Tuesday in Luanda, states that such an achievement is not only a prize, but also proof that dedication, hard work and continuous commitment to young talent bring concrete results.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the athlete Ant³nio Pedro raised the name of Angola and opened a new chapter for Angolan fencing on the international scene. The MINJUD communication reserves a greeting to the Angolan Fencing Federation, coaches, and all those involved in this victorious journey. "This is a moment of celebration, but also of motivation so that we can continue to invest and support our young athletes," it reads.
The bronze medal was won on Sunday (2), by Ant³nio Pedro, in junior, in the foil specialty. This is Angola's first achievement in an international competition since the constitution of the Angolan Fencing Federation (FAE) in 2015. At 19 years old, Ant³nio Pedro is a three-time champion (2022, 2023, and 2024) for Gin¡sio Clube de Portugal.
For the National Team, he was ranked 25th in the 2021 World Cup, played in Cairo (Egypt), in a universe of more than 30 competitors. The CAN of Fencing celebrates the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be marked on November 11th.
