Young Suspect Arrested for Murder in Phugwani Village

POLOKWANE – In Malamulele, a 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man at Phugwani village, following his family’s decision to hand him over to the police earlier today.

According to South African Police Service, the incident that led to the arrest occurred when the victim, Fistos Mabasa, aged 35, was allegedly attacked and killed with a sharp object by the suspect. The fatal incident took place while the victim was drinking alcohol with others, including the suspect, in Phugwani village. It is reported that the victim went to the restroom, followed by the suspect, who then stabbed him in the upper body.

The police and emergency services were called to the scene, but the suspect had already fled by the time they arrived. Mabasa was pronounced dead at the scene. Following this, the suspect’s family took the initiative to hand him over to the authorities in Malamulele.

The young suspect is scheduled to appear before the Malamulele Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Meanwhile, the police have indicated that their investigations into the case are ongoing, as they work to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
