MAKWANE – A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Makwane, Qwaqwa, for the alleged murder of a 92-year-old woman. The arrest followed the discovery of a stolen television and a blood-stained knife in the suspect’s home in Matshekeng Village.
According to South African Police Service, they were called to a residence in Matshekeng Village on the evening of November 25, 2023, around 21:00, following a report of a murder. At the crime scene, officers found the elderly woman’s body with multiple stab wounds and a broken knife nearby. The victim was found by her grandson, who lived with her.
The grandson reported that he had left his grandmother alive in the house around 14:30 and upon returning at about 20:30, he discovered her lifeless body and noticed that a 32-inch plasma television was missing from the home.
Initial investigations led the police to identify and locate a suspect in the same area. Upon searching the suspect’s residence, they found a 32-inch plasma television, a half-blade of a blood-stained knife, and black trousers. These items were seized as evidence.
The 27-year-old suspect was taken into custody and is expected to be charged with murder and possession of suspected stolen property. He is scheduled to appear before the Makwane Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 27, 2023.
