NAIROBI: A Zetech University student has garnered interest from multiple security firms for his innovative security technology that restricts unauthorized access to premises. Francis Ng’ang’a, an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student, shared that he is currently collaborating with these firms to further develop and integrate his invention into existing security frameworks.
According to Kenya News Agency, Ng’ang’a presented his Advanced Face Recognition system during the university’s career week. The system, which utilizes high-precision algorithms to scan facial features and the iris for identity verification, has impressed investors and industry players who are eager to support its advancement and mass production. Ng’ang’a’s technology offers a promising alternative to manual identification methods and student identification cards, providing enhanced security and convenience.
The system’s processing capabilities allow it to manage large volumes of individuals efficiently, reducing errors common in
manual checks and protecting against identity theft. In the event of system failure, it includes backup identification options, such as fingerprint scanning. Ng’ang’a envisions the application of his technology in educational institutions to replace traditional student ID cards and potentially mark class attendance.
Ng’ang’a emphasized the importance of partnerships between industry players and educational institutions in fostering innovation. He advocates for more platforms like the Career Week to facilitate networking and idea promotion. Additionally, he called on universities to establish funding mechanisms and provide expertise and industry connections to support young innovators.
