Yatenga Youth Rebuild RTB2 North Wall After Destructive Protest

OUAHIGOUYA — Following a destructive protest on January 29, 2024, which led to significant vandalism including at the RTB2 North headquarters, the youth of Yatenga province have initiated a remedial project to rebuild the damaged property and enhance its security. This week, they began efforts to raise the height of the management wall at the broadcasting station.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the coordinator of the citizen watch in Ouahigouya, the demonstration initially intended to support the Transition authorities and advocate for increased security measures, but escalated into vandalism affecting several significant sites including the court of King Naaba Kiiba and the 12th Commando Infantry Regiment’s camp. Guiro expressed deep regret over the incident, emphasizing the community’s determination to rectify their mistakes and prevent such occurrences in the future. He called on the youth to rally in support of peace and stability in the region.



The reconstruction effort has been supported by voluntary contributions and aid from well-wishers, enabling the procurement of necessary materials such as cement and iron. The regional director of RTB2 North, Tewendé Xavier Belemgnegré, praised the youth’s actions, recognizing it as a patriotic response to the unfortunate events. He relayed gratitude on behalf of the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, noting that this act of rebuilding by the youth will be remembered as a significant step towards reconciliation and community responsibility.
