Nationals, notables and several resource people met on Sunday July 16, 2023 under the palaver tree of “Toogo Naaba”, customary chief of the village of Sissamba, in the commune of Ouahigouya to discuss the promotion of peace.

This meeting resulted in a consensus, within the framework of the search for unity and social cohesion, which should enable the customary chief and his constituents to strengthen resilience in the locality.

Sissamba, a village attached to the commune of Ouahigouya is located in the suburbs of Ouahigouya, about ten km on the national road leading to Tougan.

The locality which faces the pressure of terrorist attacks around the city of Ouahigouya wants to be resilient, in this difficult security context.

For some time now, disputes between the bearer of the tradition and some citizens have been putting a strain on the social cohesion and unity of the inhabitants of the village, which is already full of several internally displaced persons (IDPs) from neighboring localities.

It is in view of the situation that the sons of the village residing in other localities felt that the problem had to be taken seriously and resolved through consultation for the happiness of the populations.

To this end, young people, customary people from the neighborhoods of the village, the head of the Village Development Committee (CVD), nationals residing in Ouagadougou, the Imam and other resource persons met in the courtyard of the chief of Sissamba to find a solution.

Thus, the participants exposed the problems related to the governance of the chiefdom, the cohabitation with the displaced persons, through the organization and the exploitation of the old artisanal gold site.

One of the facilitators and moderator of the meeting Boureima Ouédraogo said he was satisfied with the exchanges, because according to him, the objective of the meeting was achieved.

“The frankness in the remarks, the sincerity and the courtesy in the interventions lead us to affirm, without being too mistaken, that the bad spirit which inhabited each other will be eradicated in favor of better social cohesion and better living together”, he added.

Same story for the “Toogo Naaba”, chief of Sissamba who has reigned for seven years after his enthronement by the king of Yatenga.

“It was really a meeting that had to be held, because tensions were rising, free expression allowed us to tell the truth and prevent each other from holding grudges. “, he argued.

According to the customary authority, the meeting will facilitate the agreement and the union of the sons of the village for a real social cohesion in its area.

The customary chief wished a good rainy season to his constituents and encouraged the populations for their resilience and their firm will to stay in their land, despite the threats of armed groups to leave the area.
