Yatenga Achieves 79.94% Success Rate in CEP Examinations Amid Challenges

YATENGA — The province of Yatenga has reported a notable success rate of 79.94% in the Certificate of Primary Education (CEP) examinations, as announced by Salam Ouédraogo, the Provincial Director of Education Preschool, Primary, and Non-Formal Yatenga (DPEPPNF). The achievement comes despite significant challenges posed by the regional security situation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the province faced numerous staffing shortages at the outset of the school year in the basic education districts of Kalsaka, Séguénéga, Kosouka, and Rambo. Adjustments were necessary to address these deficits. The year proceeded smoothly with respect for teaching hours and schedules, despite disruptions and occasional school closures in areas like Ouahigouya, Oula, Séguénéga, Kosouka, and Rambo due to security threats. The successful outcome was attributed to the resilience of teachers and the protective vigilance of defense and security forces.

Ouédraogo detailed that the region registered 9,763 students for the CEP exams, of which 9,425 participated and 7,534 passed, excluding independent candidates. This year marks a record performance for the province, underscoring the concerted efforts and sacrifices of all education stakeholders. Special recognition was given to the education districts that managed to compensate for lost teaching hours by utilizing non-working days, significantly contributing to the overall success.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year, Ouédraogo’s primary wish is for peace, emphasizing that stability is crucial for quality education. He also expressed hope for good health among staff to maintain motivation and continue the positive trend. With a call for increased involvement from all educational stakeholders, Ouédraogo extended his gratitude for their dedication and wished students and educational workers a pleasant holiday period.

Yatenga, the largest province in Burkina Faso’s Northern region, consists of 18 basic education districts, with 17 remaining functional despite the challenges. The province supports 4,500 teachers and serves 150,000 students across 1,069 schools, though 300 remain closed due to ongoing security issues.
