Yako – The urban commune of Yako convened a crucial workshop on May 7, 2024, focusing on the identification process for vulnerable households, led by Noélie Béréhoumdougou/Kabore, the Secretary General of Passoré Province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop, held in collaboration with the Passoré Humanitarian Action directorate, aims to bolster the national social protection system by identifying needy households in Yako. The initiative is part of efforts by the technical secretariat of the Single Social Register (ST-RSU) to enhance targeting and service delivery within the social safety net.

The session was designed to mobilize a wide range of stakeholders, including administrative, military, and paramilitary officials, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), urban commune resources, and local religious and traditional leaders. Throughout the workshop, participants received comprehensive briefings on the operational framework and objectives of the Single Social Register.

Lucien Ilboudo, the Director of the Single Social Register, provided the first communication, detailing the institutional framework and the importance of the RSU as a vital information tool comprising a database of the country’s poor and vulnerable households. The RSU is structured to facilitate the generation of unique identification codes for individuals, aiding in the efficient execution of social protection programs.

The second presentation, delivered by François Guibila, focused on the methodologies used for targeting vulnerable populations, emphasizing community-based approaches and household surveys in both rural and urban settings.

Emmanuel Zongo’s session covered the strategic communication plan and complaint management processes associated with the register. His talk highlighted the importance of robust internal and external communications, community engagement, and the dissemination of information related to the targeting operations.

Participants, including Adama Sawadogo, expressed high appreciation for the discussions, noting that the insights gained would enhance their understanding of local household dynamics through direct engagement with field surveys.

In her closing remarks, Béréhoumdougou/Kabore expressed gratitude towards technical and financial partners for their support and urged all attendees to serve as ambassadors for the RSU initiative. She also encouraged them to share the knowledge acquired with their communities and to assist the survey teams in their work.
