Yako: Girls’ fainting causes high school to suspend classes

Classes were suspended this Thursday at Toussaint Louverture municipal high school in Yako, due to the unexplained fainting of nine girls.

Nine girls, including two from the 12th grade and seven from the 4th grade , suddenly fainted between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Toussaint Louverture municipal high school in Yako, in northern Burkina, AIB learned from witnesses.

Quite mysterious cries followed by chases preceded these losses of consciousness, causing panic, they add.

The events forced the school administration to temporarily suspend educational activities on behalf of the day of March 16, 2023.

AIB witnesses attribute the cause of these girls fainting to supernatural forces.

Reached by telephone by the AIB, the principal of the school, Mamadi Kéré, said he wanted the involvement of the customary through the establishment’s Parents’ Association (APE) to resolve the problem.

As a reminder, a similar situation occurred on Monday, February 20, 2023 at the provincial comprehensive school of Yako and affected at least five girls from third grade.
