Yako, On Thursday, October 26, 2023, the special municipal delegation of Yako successfully implemented “the clean city operation,” an initiative mandated by the Transitional Government to coincide with National Citizenship Week.
According to Burkina Information Agency, president of the special municipal delegation (PDS) of Yako, the operation involved a comprehensive cleaning of various sites in the city, including the auto station and the site for the induction of customary chiefs. Participants equipped themselves with shovels, wheelbarrows, and other necessary tools for the collection and storage of garbage.
The event saw active participation from provincial authorities, members of the special municipal delegation of Yako, and associative structures working in plastic waste management within the Passoré province in the North. The community collectively decided upon and executed this sanitation activity as a part of the 20th edition of National Citizenship Week (SENAC), which ran from October 23 to 27, 2023.
“The clean city operation” was initiated across all 13 regions of the country, aiming to improve cleanliness in services and public spaces. Bako highlighted the cultural and historical significance of the chiefs’ induction site, expressing solidarity with the chieftaincy and gratitude for their daily contributions. He emphasized that sanitation should be a routine practice in every household and that the cleanliness of the city depends on the collective health actions of all residents.
The Secretary General of the province (SGP), Noélie Béréhoumdougou/Kaboré, expressed her support for the communities involved in implementing the “clean city operation.” Béréhoumdougou underscored that the initiative is a crucial part of commemorating SENAC 2023 and stated that maintaining sanitation can help minimize the risks of spreading diseases such as dengue. She reassured that no cases of dengue had been reported in the locality thus far.
Notably, the “clean city operation” was executed across all nine municipalities in the Passoré province, under the direction of the special municipal delegations.
