Xinjiang Maintains Lead as China’s Top Cotton Producer for 32 Years

Beijing: China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has maintained its position as the country's leading cotton producer for the 32nd consecutive year, with its cotton output reaching approximately 5.69 million tonnes in 2024. This figure represents 92.3 percent of the national total, as revealed in a white paper released by the State Council Information Office.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the document, titled "CPC Guidelines for Governing Xinjiang in the New Era: Practice and Achievements," highlights the region's high mechanization rate in cotton production. The rate of mechanization in plowing, planting, and harvesting has reached 97 percent.

Xinjiang's efforts have focused on meeting national strategic needs while leveraging its natural resources and industrial capabilities. The region has accelerated its development of a modern industrial system tailored to its unique advantages.
