Xi Jinping Honors 15 Individuals with National Awards on China’s 75th Anniversary


BEIJING—Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order on Friday to bestow national medals and honorary titles on 15 distinguished individuals, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the honorees were selected following a vote by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, earlier that day. Four notable individuals received the Medal of the Republic, including the posthumous recognition of Wang Yongzhi, a pivotal figure in China’s manned space program. Other recipients included Wang Zhenyi, renowned for his medical advancements in leukemia treatment; Li Zhensheng, a leading expert in wheat breeding; and Huang Zongde, a celebrated war veteran.



Dilma Rousseff, the current president of the New Development Bank and former president of Brazil, was awarded the Friendship Medal, highlighting her significant contributions to fostering international cooperation.



Additionally, ten individuals were granted national honorary titles for their exceptional contributions to their respective fields. Among them, the late Wang Xiaomo was named People’s Scientist for his innovations in radar technology and early warning aircraft systems. Zhao Zhongxian was also recognized in the same category for his research in high-temperature superconductivity. Bayika Kalidibek received the title of People’s Guard for his long-standing service in border security in Xinjiang.



The arts and sciences were also represented with Tian Hua receiving the title of People’s Artist for her influential portrayals in Chinese cinema, and Xu Zhenchao, recognized as People’s Craftsman, for his technical advancements in container handling. Zhang Jinfan and the late Huang Danian were honored as People’s Educators for their significant contributions to legal and geological education, respectively.



In healthcare, Lu Shengmei was named People’s Health Worker, acknowledged for her efforts to enhance medical care in underserved areas, particularly in maternal and infant health. Lastly, Zhang Zhuoyuan and Zhang Xielin were recognized for their contributions to economic research and sports, respectively, highlighting their lasting impacts in their fields.
