Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the enduring and robust relationship between China and Russia, declaring them as "good neighbors" and "true friends" that are committed to mutual support and development. This statement was made during a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, initiated at Putin's request.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Xi highlighted the ongoing cooperation between China and Russia, which has been steadily progressing across various sectors. This cooperation is in line with the consensus reached during their earlier video meeting before the Chinese Spring Festival. The discussion focused on plans for strengthening China-Russia relations throughout the year and enhancing coordination on significant international and regional issues.
Xi also mentioned the collaborative efforts to commemorate the 80th anniversaries of both the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He noted that the bilateral ties have a strong internal driving force and strategic significance, emphasizing that these ties do not target or get influenced by any third party.
Despite the evolving international landscape, Xi affirmed that China-Russia relations remain stable and contribute positively to international relations by promoting development and revitalization. He reiterated China's commitment to resolving the Ukraine crisis, referencing the "four-should" proposals he put forward at the onset of the crisis.
Additionally, Xi referenced the formation of the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine crisis by China and Brazil, along with other Global South countries, aiming to foster an environment conducive to a political settlement of the crisis. He expressed China's willingness to see Russia and other parties make positive strides towards defusing the situation.
