Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping met with visiting King Tupou VI of the Kingdom of Tonga, expressing China's readiness to align development strategies with Tonga. The meeting, held in the Chinese capital, focused on exploring mutual interests and deepening bilateral ties.
According to Namibia Press Agency, President Xi articulated China's willingness to expand cooperation with Tonga across various sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, clean energy, medical and health care, tourism, and climate change response. He emphasized the importance of deepening exchanges in education, sports, youth, media, and subnational cooperation, while also committing to continued support for Tonga's economic and social development under the framework of South-South cooperation.
Xi underscored China's commitment to working with Tonga to implement four global initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens of both nations. He emphasized the vision of building a China-Pacific Island countries community with a shared future and promoting the broader concept of a community with a shared future for humanity. This meeting signifies a strengthening of diplomatic and cooperative relations between China and Tonga, with a focus on sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
