Addis Ababa: The World Without Hunger Conference kicked off today in Addis Ababa, featuring solution-oriented technical sessions, an investment forum, and a high-level political forum.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the conference, co-organized by UNIDO, the African Union Commission (AUC), and the Government of Ethiopia with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is going to be undertaken from 5th to 7th November 2024 here in the Ethiopian capital, bringing together over 1,500 high-level stakeholders from across the globe.
This significant event is witnessing participation from Heads of State, Ministers, UN agencies, financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society, all committed to addressing global food insecurity.
The Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Mr. Gerd Mller has arrived in Addis Ababa ahead of the Conference.
As a global issue, hunger and food insecurity require coordinated international efforts, it
was indicated.
The World Without Hunger Conference, organized by UNIDO, aims to bring influential leaders, policymakers, and experts together to discuss practical solutions to these pressing challenges.
Ethiopia’s role as the host underscores its growing leadership in addressing food security issues, with the country emerging as a model for others due to its recent strides in achieving wheat self-sufficiency and reducing hunger.
Recalled Ethiopia’s dedication to food self-sufficiency has earned it international recognition, particularly the award received by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his leadership in promoting food security and nutrition.
Particularly, Prime Minister Abiy’s innovative approach toward wheat self-sufficiency, even in the face of challenging circumstances, has been applauded globally.
The Prime Minister’s achievements were honored during an FAO-hosted ceremony in Italy, where UNIDO Director General Gerd Mller commended Ethiopia’s efforts in doubling food sector yields and becoming a ne
t exporter of wheat, showcasing the nation’s remarkable progress in fighting hunger.
Moreover, With Ethiopia’s progress as a backdrop, the conference aims to inspire and implement sustainable solutions that will have a lasting impact on global hunger, bringing the world closer to achieving food security for all.
This year’s event is also anticipated to further strengthen international collaboration toward achieving the global Zero Hunger goal.
