Khorixas: Swapo Party member Henny Seibeb emphasized the necessity for lodges and tourist attractions near Twyfelfontein to contribute towards enhancing the living conditions of the local community during a mini-rally on Saturday. Seibeb highlighted that the Twyfelfontein settlement, recognized as an international world heritage site, generates significant revenue from Damaraland, yet the local inhabitants do not benefit adequately from these profits.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Seibeb pointed out the dire living conditions faced by the residents of the Twyfelfontein settlement, where less than 300 people reside in mud houses without access to running water and rely on pit latrines. He advocated for businesses in the area to allocate at least N.dollars 2 million towards improving infrastructure and constructing brick houses to uplift the community’s standard of living.
Seibeb criticized the lack of social activities in the area, warning that the absence of engagement leads locals to indulge in alcoho
lism. He urged lodges to continue employing local residents and to initiate annual projects aimed at improving living conditions. He stressed the importance of world heritage sites in supporting their surrounding communities, leveraging Twyfelfontein’s rich wildlife, natural resources, and tourist attractions.
Additionally, Seibeb advised the community to refrain from associating political parties with specific tribes and to vote for parties that promise development. The Twyfelfontein settlement is part of the Khorixas Constituency, where Deputy Mayor Norman !Nanuseb reminded residents of the upcoming elections and the importance of voting for improved living conditions.
Seibeb actively campaigned for the ruling Swapo Party, engaging in door-to-door advocacy ahead of the general elections scheduled for 27 November 2024.
