Burkina Faso was drawn Thursday at the Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Abidjan, in Pool A of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers Africa area.
Nine groups (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I) of six teams were formed during this draw carried out by the governing body of African football in the Ivorian capital. Burkina Faso is housed in pool A along with Egypt, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
In this group, only Egypt, seven times champion of Africa, participated three times in the final stages of the World Cup.
For this 23rd edition of the 2026 World Cup, Africa is entitled to 9 places instead of 5. Each leader in the group is therefore qualified for the final phase co-organized in June-July 2026 by Canada, the United States States and Mexico.
