Luanda: The World Bank's Director-General of Operations, Anna Bjerde, encouraged the Angolan government to continue with its reform plan in the Public-Private Partnerships field and recommended its expansion to the agribusiness sector. During a meeting in Luanda on Friday with the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Jos© de Lima Massano, Bjerde emphasized the need for increased support in agribusiness, particularly for small farmers across various regions of Angola.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the World Bank has been closely monitoring Angola's efforts in establishing public-private partnerships. The organization encourages Angola to develop similar models in the agribusiness sector, akin to those planned for the energy and water sectors.
Anna Bjerde noted that the meeting also focused on the support plan for Angola over the next five years, as well as the country's involvement in regional integration efforts. She highlighted Angola's collaborative role with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia through the Lobito Corridor.
"The Lobito Corridor must be transformed into an economic corridor so that it can play a stronger role, from the point of view of infrastructure deployment, to support the people living in the surrounding areas, and this will certainly bring employment, sustainability, and well-being to the populations," Bjerde stated.
