World Bank Official Commends Burkina Faso’s Project Performance

Ouagadougou: Mr. Hamoud Abdel Wedoud Kamil, Resident Representative of the World Bank in Burkina Faso, was received in audience on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo. The discussions between the two personalities focused on the progress of the projects managed by the institution in Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the partnership between the World Bank and Burkina Faso is based on approximately thirty projects spanning 13 key sectors. Mr. Kamil highlighted the excellent relations between his institution and Burkina Faso, which he attributes to the quality of the dialogue with cooperation stakeholders.

Mr. Kamil also reviewed the status of ongoing projects, particularly those facing implementation challenges. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the World Bank's contributions, noting that some projects, despite their relevance, require adjustments to align with the Government's current vision, which emphasizes accountability and national skills development. An example of this focus is the creation of the National Office of Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Developments (ONBAH), aimed at enhancing water resource mobilization.

"I take this opportunity to congratulate Burkina Faso, because, in terms of performance, we are recording an annual disbursement rate of around 30% of the total portfolio, estimated at around 3 billion dollars. This is a remarkable performance, the result of the commitment of the authorities and sector managers to ensure that the projects financed are both structuring and impactful for the population," declared Mr. Hamoud Abdel Wedoud Kamil as he left the audience.
