Women’s Cycling Race Concludes Ministry of Defence’s Cultural and Sporting Events

Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs concluded its third edition of cultural and sporting activities in Nagrin, Ouagadougou, with a women's cycling race. The event saw Karidiatou Millogo claim victory over 36 other competitors, marking a successful end to the series of events on Tuesday, as reported by AIB.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Brigadier General Mady Savadogo, Inspector General of the National Armed Forces, representing the Minister of State for Defense, stated, "This third edition is a complete success because you witnessed such a large turnout. All the planned programs were successfully completed. Everything went well. It's a very positive outcome."

Karidiatou Millogo led the women's cycling race, completing the more than 3km race ahead of her competitors, with Clarisse Bilgo finishing second. Millogo received a bicycle and 80,000 FCFA, while Bilgo took home 60,000 FCFA. Millogo expressed her surprise at the victory, admitting, "I didn't train for this race. I just pedaled with all my might to win."

The event featured various competitions aimed at fostering community ties, including checkers, cards, petanque, race walking, lido, and table tennis, involving both defense and security forces as well as civilians. Notably, Hel¨ne Nikiema, aged 65, was the oldest participant in the cycling event and Ranatou Nikiema, aged 15, was the youngest. They received prizes alongside other competitors, with financial rewards and encouragement bonuses distributed.

The Ministry's representative emphasized the importance of these activities in building community spirit and strengthening cohesion with Nagrin residents. "We hope to repeat this every year (God willing) to continue fostering community spirit with our neighbors, the people of Nagrin, and to work more generally to strengthen cohesion," he remarked.

Naba Kango of Nagrin expressed gratitude towards the army's efforts, hoping for peace and prosperity in Burkina Faso. "We pray to God that He brings peace back to Burkina Faso. May this new year bring us health and peace," he stated.

The event concluded with the announcement of winners across various competitions, showcasing the talents and skills of both military personnel and civilians, and reinforcing the bond between the defense forces and the local community.
