Boulgou: The women of the Zabr© commune celebrated International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 22, in a delayed manner. On this occasion, they advocated for the development of development policies that take into account their deepest aspirations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, gathered at the Place de la Nation in Zabr© under the auspices of the municipal women’s coordination, the participants expressed their grievances to the local authorities, in the presence of internally displaced women. In her speech, the Secretary General of the Women’s Coordination, Mariam Zinsonni, highlighted the many challenges that women continue to face, despite the government’s efforts.

Concerns raised include insufficient funding for women’s projects, the exclusion of women from decision-making bodies, the lack of a housing policy in their favor, and failure to respect the gender quota. “We want development policies to truly integrate our aspirations, to allow us to evolve in a more equitable framework,” said Ms. Zinsonni.

In response, the prefect, president of the special delegation of Zabr©, Alain B. Bassano, assured that the women’s grievances would be transmitted to the competent authorities. He also reaffirmed the commitment of technical services to support initiatives promoting women’s rights.

Former Burkinabe Minister of Energy, Simon-Pierre Boussim, who hosted the event, encouraged the women of Zabr© to better organize themselves to promote their economic empowerment. He invited them to draw inspiration from the model of the women of Zongo, who were able to structure their entrepreneurial and agricultural activities, thus attracting the attention of the President of Faso. “Be a model of social cohesion and integration. Support people in accepting differences and promoting peace, especially during this period of security crisis,” he urged.

The Zabr© women’s community coordination concluded the celebration by distributing food to vulnerable women and internally displaced women. It thanked all those who contributed to the success of the event.
