Murang’a: Women and youth in Murang’a County have received a significant economic boost through the donation of animal feed mixers, aimed at empowering them economically. Ahadi Kenya Trust, in collaboration with local and international partners, has spearheaded this initiative to create employment and enhance the production and supply chain in the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ahadi Kenya Trust CEO Stanley Kamau announced the donation of three dairy salt and animal feed ribbon mixers during a ceremony at Kangari Polytechnic in Kigumo. Kamau emphasized that the equipment would benefit women and youth groups in the Kiharu, Mathioya, and Kigumo constituencies. The initiative not only seeks to provide economic opportunities but also to address issues such as theft and alcoholism by enabling young people to uplift themselves financially. Additionally, locals received avocado seedlings for planting, further supporting agricultural development in the area.

Kamau highlighted the importance of maintaining
quality standards, noting that the dairy salt lick and feed produced from the mixers will be taken to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) for standardization. Once standardized, producers will have the opportunity to open a local shop, selling the products at discounted prices to the youth, who can then resell them for profit. He encouraged all women and youths in the area to register with a group to access such empowering initiatives.

Mercelyn Mokaira, Executive Director of Ushiriki Wema, expressed her organization’s commitment to empowering women and youth so they can live with dignity. Mokaira praised the partnership with Ahadi Kenya Trust and support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), which has led to impactful projects through collaborative efforts. She emphasized the transformative potential of these partnerships in enhancing individual and community dignity, prosperity, and empowerment.

Ushiriki Wema CEO Women and Youth Empowerment Sintoiya Kasaine noted that the salt-makin
g machines will not only increase household incomes but also contribute to the broader economic empowerment of local communities. Kasaine stressed the importance of equipping women and youth with entrepreneurial skills to foster independence and self-reliance. The initiative also includes youth entrepreneurial forums focused on digital literacy and entrepreneurial development, aiming to educate participants on money management.

Yasemin Kurt, TIKA Country Coordinator, expressed gratitude to all partners, stakeholders, and the county government for supporting the initiative. Kurt affirmed TIKA’s commitment to aligning with national and county development priorities, having implemented over two hundred projects across the country, with Murang’a being one of the beneficiaries aimed at empowering women and youth.
