Woman Suffers Burn Injuries as Train Catches Fire in Punjab

Windhoek: A 32-year-old woman sustained severe burn injuries when a train traveling from Punjab to Bihar caught fire, a local police officer confirmed to Xinhua over the phone. The incident occurred at the Sirhind railway station in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the woman, who hails from Bihar, was on her way home to celebrate the Diwali festival, which is on October 20. She was admitted to a local hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

The police indicated that the fire started in the brake system of one of the Garib Rath train’s coaches due to a short circuit in an electric panel. The train was stopped immediately, and the affected coach was detached from the rest of the train. The firefighting system was promptly deployed, although two nearby coaches sustained partial damage.

Latest reports confirm that the fire has been extinguished, and arrangements are being made to transfer passengers to an alternate train to continue their journey.
