Otjiwarongo: A 24-year-old woman lost her life instantly on Monday night when a minibus she was traveling in collided with a sedan on the Otjiwarongo-Okahandja B1 road. The incident occurred about 15 kilometers south of Otjiwarongo at approximately 23:20.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Head of Community Affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, stated in an interview on Tuesday that the deceased has yet to be identified. The preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that the minibus, which was carrying 12 occupants including its 37-year-old driver, was en route from Okahandja to Otjiwarongo when it side-collided with an oncoming red Toyota Corolla, which had a Windhoek registration number.
The collision resulted in the minibus driver losing control, causing the vehicle to overturn several times. Two occupants of the sedan survived the crash, while the woman, a passenger in the minibus, died on the spot. Additionally, a 33-year-old male passenger in the minibus sustained serious injuries and was later transferred to a hospital in Windhoek. Several other passengers of the minibus experienced body pains and were subsequently taken to Otjiwarongo State Hospital for treatment.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing as they work to uncover further details surrounding the collision.
